RYA DAY SKIPPER SHORE BASED

RYA COASTAL SKIPPER/YACHT MASTER SHORE BASED

It is highly advisable for Coastal skippers and Yacht masters to complete this course prior to their practical qualification. In order to sit this exam you will need to have a basic knowledge of navigation and sailing skills to Day Skipper level. The subjects that are covered will include:

• Secondary tidal heights
• Electronic aids to navigation

RYA DIESEL ENGINE MAINTENANCE

One-day non-residential course. Dates Prices

This course teaches you practical faultfinding and the main systems of marine diesel engines, servicing and winterisation.

VHF MARINE RADIO OPERATOR'S SHORT RANGE CERTIFICATE (SRC). Includes DSC & GMDSS.

One-day course. Dates Prices

This course teaches all you need to know about operating a marine band VHF radio fitted with Digital Selective Calling (DSC). In addition to teaching the use of VHF radio for DSC and normal voice communications. The emergency operating procedures for the use of Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) and Search and Rescue Transponders (SART) You will also be thoroughly be trained in using the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) On completion of the course you will sit an exam and the successful candidates will receive The RYA Short Range Certificate. (GMDSS). This is one of the requirements for coastal/Yachtmaster practical.

RYA BASIC SEA SURVIVAL

At Personally Tailored School of Yachting we do encourage all our students to attend this course. The course will teach you the basic survival techniques needed in the event of immersion into cold water. It is an intensive day, which will include theory and practical sessions. The subjects that are covered will include:

• Life raft work i.e. launching, getting in and survival.
• Rescue procedures
• Pyrotechnics
• Location aids
• Hypothermia

RYA FIRST AID

One Day. Dates Prices

In our opinion this is a vital course for anyone who goes to sea. It covers all aspects of basic first aid. It is also the minimum requirement to sit the Coastal Skipper or Yachtmaster courses.
