It is desirable to have completed the competent crew course prior to attending day skipper course. In which instruction will be given in pilotage, seamanship, boat handling and an introduction to navigation and meteorology. The instructor will encourage you to take decisions and then accept the responsibility for the outcome of these decisions whether negative or positive. The successful Day Skipper will be able to undertake short passages by day in both tidal and non-tidal waters. You will also hold the minimum qualification to charter one of our Jeanneau range. Candidates should also hold either a Marine Radio Operator's Short Range Certificate or VHF Radio Operator's Certificate and a First Aid Certificate This advanced course specializes in the skills and techniques required to skipper a yacht on passages involving more complex decision making, watch keeping, cruise planning, navigation and pilotage. In addition you will be given the opportunity to improve your close quarters boat handling skills under power and sail. Practising heavy weather cruising and navigation in restricted visibility. All aspects will be thoroughly practised before the RYA independent examiner boards for a two-day exam. By the end of this course the successful Coastal Skipper will have sufficient knowledge to skipper a yacht safely on coastal and offshore passages by day and night, in both tidal and non- tidal waters. The RYA/DoT Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence is one of the most highly respected yachting qualifications in the world. This will allow you to skipper a cruising yacht on any passage up to 150 miles from any port. WOMEN ONLY COURSES We also offer all the above courses in women only groups. Our RYA female instructors
